Hailing from St.Louis in the United States, Huntergatherer are an instrumental four-piece which make music that is, frankly, astonishing.
Anathema's eight studio album is the culmination of years of reinvention and reimagination.
You’ve got to hand it to whoever does futurerecordings’ PR. Their description of The Ascent Of Everest’s new album is enough to make you want to buy it there and then: “As earthquakes and tsunamis crash and pound to reshape the landscape, so too will ‘From This Vantage’, as it sends you on an unforgettable journey and leaves you mesmerised.” Impressive, right? If you’ve heard anything that Pulled Apart By Horses have written before listening to this album, you’ll know well what to expect. Easily one of the best live acts around, their off-the-wall punk-rock riffs have earned them many fans. Bands that are so incendiary live can sometimes struggle to put themselves to record, but the Leeds four-piece have plenty of tunes to back up the hype buzzing around them.

There’s barely any guitar across Kele Okereke’s debut solo album. For a man who’s spent the majority of his time in the spotlight wielding one as the frontman of Bloc Party, it’s a bold move, and The Boxer serves as his call: Indie Is Dead And Everyone Likes Electronic Music Now. It’s a surprise to walk into a room the size of the Wulfrun for a band like Band Of Horses and to find it full. The South Carolinian quintet enjoy a wide-spread following thanks to word of mouth, and the large, friendly crowd certainly invited the band to play a lively, energetic set. We Are Scientists are well at the point where they could just phone in an album of new-wave pop-punk hits and send it off to the shops, and on a passing glance you could worry – there’s ten songs, they’re all about 3 minutes each. But straight away it’s apparent that this is We Are Scientists’ most consistent album. Read the rest of We Are Scientists – Barbara »
Hailing from St.Louis in the United States, Huntergatherer are an instrumental four-piece which make music that is, frankly, astonishing. They take the dark atmospherics that Godspeed trademarked themselves with, and throw in layer upon layer of instrumentation to create an almost symphonic sound at times. Tonight’s gig is another in a long line of gigs Rogue States have played at The Hare & Hounds. The Birmingham four-piece could well call it a spiritual home, and tonight’s gig has them on top form. Read the rest of Rogue States/Blackchords @ The Hare And Hounds, 07/06/10 »
Wintersleep are a band that could easily have played it safe with this, their fourth album. They’ve already sort of ‘made it’, having recently supported Paul McCartney and winning the prestigious Juno award for Best New Act. And that’s good and all, but it hasn’t quite translated into commercial success; rather, the band have developed a large undergound following. New Inheritors could be a breakthrough. Right, I’m just going to get the title of this EP out of the way right away, because it’s ridiculously long. Hot Club De Paris’ new EP is called The Rise And Inevitable Fall Of The High School Suicide Cluster Band, and ridiculous title aside, you’ve got to hand it to them – the Liverpudlian trio’s second EP this year (with a full length album yet to follow) is in no way light on quality material. Chiaroscuro is a movement in the art world which is based on the contrast between light and dark, and so to name your post-rock band after it is a pretty good idea. All in all, it’s pretty handy – Chiaroscuro’s debut album is as post-rock as it comes.
